This cop-buddy pic stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as a couple of supercop wannabes. The film co-stars Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson as real-deal supercops whom the Ferrell-Wahlberg team idolize, Michael Keaton as their precinct captain and Eva Mendes as Ferrell’s wife. It was directed by Adam McKay.
The trailer emphasizes car stunts, explosions and general mayhem as much as comic elements, which places this film squarely in the action-comedy hybrid genre. It’s brought to you by the same production team (McKay and Ferrell) that was responsible for Step Brothers and Talladega Nights. If you enjoyed the comedic formula (action + slapstick + Will Ferrell running through his entire repertoire of funny voices) on display in the earlier films, you should love this latest effort.

Set in New York City, The Other Guys follows Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell), a forensic accountant who’s more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg), a tough guy who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an unfortunate run-in with Derek Jeter. Allen and Terry idolize the city’s top cops, Danson and Highsmith (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don’t quite go as planned.
