Many of us probably feel as though we’re stuck on a treadmill. The daily grind is such that one day blends into another, and most days seem more alike than they do different. Your boss yelled at you yesterday? Or was it the day before? Maybe it’s every day. Have you finished that TPS report? Maybe that was last month. But what’s this on your computer screen? Oops, it’s the TPS report, and you haven’t finished it yet.
And what about your sex life? Remember when each encounter seemed new, and fresh, and exciting and different? Well, if you’re like me, that was a long time ago. After a time, well…I think Shakespeare had something to say about it in Macbeth. Again, sometimes a certain sameness can creep into the experience, so it becomes difficult to differentiate one event from another.
If you live long enough, eventually you feel as though you’re living in an episode of the Twilight Zone. You’re stuck in a time warp. You always thought time was linear, but now you realize it’s circular, and you’re stuck in a repetitive loop.
But the rich and famous, the gaudy and glamorous…things are different for them, right? Surely each day, each month, each year provides them with new professional challenges, and new exciting encounters, right? Otherwise, why would the divorce rate in Hollywood be so high?
Maybe. On the other hand, maybe not. Check out Hugh Laurie’s talk show time warp in the video below.
